A Green Country church was burglarized a day after holding a fundraiser for an elementary school.

It happened on the corner of East 15th street and Indianapolis Avenue on Sept. 22nd.

One of the ministers told FOX23's Dontaye Carter they put it up not only to raise awareness about the crime but to also reach out to the lost soul.

"The reason we put up the sign, and it says, 'Dear burglar, next time please stay for worship,' is to let someone like this know or anyone that we are a welcoming congregation," said East Side Christian Church Associate Minister Daniel U'Ren.

He said they're ready to help the burglar who stole from them despite how they feel about it.

"It makes people question do we want to help, and the answer is yes, we do," he said.

He said he's called to but it's understandably difficult.

"They were able to pop the lock with a crowbar or something," U'Ren said as he pointed out the damage to FOX23 cameras.

DVD players,a computer, a projector and a netbook were also stolen.

"We have a veteran who comes by to get food not only for himself but other veterans," U’Ren said.

The burglar also emptied out their food pantry and refrigerator, stealing everything they could until they got into the Sanctuary.

"I do think something interrupted them and they left in a hurry because like a lot of these electronics we have on the balcony they did leave behind," said U'ren. "I definitely think God is at work in mysterious ways. For us to still have everything we needed for worship on Sunday morning was definitely a blessing."

U'Ren said they have forgiven whomever came into the church and stole from them. The staff has been able to begin re-stocking the food pantry and refrigerator thanks to nearby neighbors. If you would like to help you can reach the East Side Christian Church at 918-744-1377.
