On Tuesday morning, medics surrounded Hale Junior High School.

Nine students got sick after taking anti-depressants. The prescription did not belong to them.

Tulsa Public Schools spokesman, Chris Payne told FOX23 the dealers were classmates.

"The two boys they were talking to were both 7th graders. They were both 14,” said Payne.

A couple of students heard about drugs being shared, and told the principal. This is not the first time Hale Junior High School has had a run in with students abusing prescription pills.

"This is increasingly going to be an issue,” said Payne.

In December, a student overdosed on hydrocodone, at Hale Junior High School. Medics rushed him to the hospital. The same day, police arrested another student for possession of marijuana.

"Drugs being exposed at school like that; it’s just ridiculous," said parent Sarah Kinyon.

Kinyon said she's afraid of what her 13-year-old daughter, Alyssa, sees every day at school.

"I know a lot of kids that do really bad stuff and I try and talk them out of it," said Alyssa Kinyon.

The bad stuff is mainly prescription pills. 80 percent of drugs found in schools are prescriptions.

"I mean you can lose your kid in a heart-beat, just like that," said Sarah Kinyon.

"I keep looking at it like really, it’s more of a societal issue than it is a TPS issue," said Payne.

Our state ranks No. 1 for prescription pill abuse. Kids don't have to hit the street corner to get their fix; they shop in the medicine cabinet at home.

The students involved are facing suspensions for the rest of the school year.
