An elderly man accidentally leaves his jacket at a Green Country restaurant with $14,000 in one of the pockets.

73-year-old Jerry Allsup went to McAlester last week to buy a car. He stopped at Pete’s Place for lunch with his wife. He later left the restaurant without his jacket and without the money.

“There were three envelopes full of one hundred dollar bills,” said Pete’s Place Manager Amanda Blemmel. “I never saw that much money before.”

The money could’ve easily fallen into the wrong hands. However, when Allsup called the next day the managers made sure he knew the money was there.

“I was raised to do the right thing. It was really great especially to see his reaction,” said Blemmel. “He was in just so happy and in tears to have his money back.”

“I had three different employees who had the opportunity to do the wrong thing but chose to do the right thing,” said Kathy Prichard, the restaurant owner.

They even turned down the reward for the money only asking that Allsup pay it forward.

“Always remember to do the right thing,” said Blemmel.

Employees say Allsup was looking to buying a car for his grandson.
