Iraq ---

A Tulsa ministry is working desperately to free a pastor who is imprisoned in Iraq. Right now, the clock is ticking on his life. Pastor Jamal Hamzah is in prison north of Mosul in Iraq after men raided his home and arrested him without charges. Prison is now his harsh reality.

A Christian minister from Iraq with some family in the U.S., he is accused of being a spy for Iran. However, his family says he has never even been there. Right now, he is also fighting a serious brain tumor that at times has left him barely able to walk.

“He is still in excruciating pain and with that my dad just visited him last week in Iraq, and in that meeting he had a very hard time holding himself up,” says Jason Law with World Compassion Terry Law Ministries.

Dr. Terry Law, his son Jason and their team have been working tirelessly to free the pastor and get him the medical attention that he needs. The group works with pastors all over the world to provide humanitarian aid through local churches.

"We are trying to get him out and have appealed to the Prime Minister and the President of Iraq to bring him out of the country on a humanitarian basis,” says Law.

Jason says his father was able to meet with a high-ranking government official and was told that man would do what he could to help Pastor Jamal gain private amnesty from his prison sentence.

"We look at this as incredible favor from God that they are actually helping us engage this,” says Law.

A letter for Pastor Jamal's release has been sent to the President of Iraq and hopefully a decision will be made in the next 10 days or so about his release. The final step in the process to free the pastor would be for the President of Iraq to sign off on the pending request for his release.
