Katori Smith is the toddler who sparked panic regarding her whereabouts. Sunday, police issued an Amber Alert, meantime people on Facebook and Twitter shared pictures of Smith's father, Charley Wilson. Wilson was accused of kidnapping her.

"I didn't even know there was anything wrong," said Wilson.

By Monday, police said they were investigating whether they were misled. Wilson said he met the child's mother, Tiama Brown at McDonald's, with Smith. Wilson said they played and then headed to the park.

"She's done this before," said Wilson.

Wilson said he left with the baby, and Brown agreed to pick her up another day. Moments later, Wilson said he learned through the Internet that he was being accused of kidnapping.

"I'm getting punished for doing the right thing," said Wilson.

Police believe the domestic spat could water down the importance of an Amber Alert. Sgt. John Adams with TPD's exploitation unit told FOX23

They don't want to desensitize reports for the public, but they must balance the child's safety. Police will always air toward child safety.

FOX23 first met Brown last year. Police issued an Amber Alert for two of her children. They were found in a truck that was reported stolen. Police later canceled the alert, and the suspect was never found.

The baby is with Wilson. Police say the next step: the DA could file charges against the mother.

The father is lucky to be alive, because amber alerts routinely list the "kidnapping suspects" as "armed and dangerous" even if there is no report of any weapon being used. Their excuse is "we dont know how dangerous this person might be so we err on the side of the child's safety."

Shroni, hopefully you "Realize" that sometimes people make mistakes and do not need to blame things like Autocorrect.

"Police will always air toward child safety." I appreciate your work, but you should check it several times before it is published. "Police will always err toward child safety." is the proper usage. Hopefully it was just Autocorrect and you relize the difference and just failed to have it proofread.
