A Jenks grandmother arrested for DUI and child endangerment has now been charged.
Donna Jean Rogers is charged with a DUI and child endangerment.
A trip to the movies turns into a DUI arrest for a 62-year-old grandmother from Jenks.
Police in Bixby say she was driving drunk with four kids in the backseat. Officers arrested Donna Rogers in the evening on January 3rd, but not before she ran into a guardrail. The arrest report shows Roger’s blood alcohol level to be a .21.
FOX23 did some checking and for a woman her size, she would have had to drink a minimum of 8 drinks. Officers say Rogers had just left the Starworld 20 movie theater in Bixby, when another person noticed her swerving in her SUV.
"Given the time the movie ended and the time we contacted her, that is my speculation that she was probably drinking during the movie,” says Officer Mike Konshak.
Bixby Police spotted Rogers driving recklessly down 151st street south near Sheridan. She was speeding down the middle of the westbound lanes, and at one point she hit the guardrail on the north side of the highway.
"I was very surprised because nowadays half of the impaired drivers we encounter are because of prescription medication problem,” says Officer Konshak.
Four children were all sitting in the backseat and all appeared to be under the age of 12. The officer says Roger’s eyes were watery, her speech slurred and she smelled strongly of alcohol. Roger’s breathalyzer result was a .21.
"That's highly intoxicated and of course the state aggravated DUI charge is .15 so she was well above that as well,” says Officer Konshak.
Police called the children’s family members and were quickly picked up by their mother and several others.
Matt Houston lives just two doors down from Rogers, and was shocked to learn his neighbor had been arrested for DUI.
"It's unfortunate and it's a bad decision and a surprising one,” says Houston.
Police seized Roger’s driver’s license and booked her into the Tulsa County Jail on one complaint of DUI and four counts of child endangerment. Court records show this to be Roger’s first DUI offense.
