Gun shows were bursting at the seams across America this past weekend, but the talk was not just about attendance numbers, three accidental shootings at shows left five people injured.

In North Carolina, a 12-gauge shotgun discharged as its owner unzipped its case during a pre-entry inspection. Three people, including the gun's owner were wounded.

"The owner of that firearm should have known better! Should have pre-checked before he left home, knowing he was coming to this event,” Gun owner Lee Limer said.

In Ohio, a gun dealer was checking out a semi-automatic handgun when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

"The gun went off and hit his friend in the arm and in the leg," Show promoter Jim Conrad said.

In Indianapolis, a man was injured when he inadvertently shot himself in the hand while leaving a gun show.

All of these incidents were accidents, and with looming news of gun control, the R.K. Gun Show this weekend in Tulsa is expected to be packed at Expo Square.

Gunshots at Tulsa gun shows are not unheard of. In October of 2000, there was an accidental shooting at a gun show at Expo Square, and it happened again in October of 2006 at the same place.

FOX23 got on the phone with the manager of R.K. Shows to get answers about how safe this weekend's show will be.

“We have a lot of security there on site, and they'll check anybody that brings firearms in, we'll check them when they come in the door, and then we put a plastic tie through the action which deems the firearm inoperable,” Rex Kehrli, Manager of R.K. Gun Shows, said.

Kehrli says if you come out this weekend you should know, gun mishaps are the exception not the rule.

“I would say that kind of activity would be extremely, extremely rare.”

As an added layer of security, R.K. Gun Shows will have another security person checking every vendor's gun to make sure it is not loaded at the show.
