MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Students from Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Muskogee  were bused to another location due to smoke from a nearby grass fire.

Muskogee public school officials confirmed this to FOX23 on Friday afternoon. Officials said homes in the area were also evacuated.

Here's a statement from the school about the fire:

"As you may be aware there is currently a grass fire south west of BFSA school. As a precaution, Bus riders are being picked up at this time and will be dropped at home or their bus stop at the normal time. Parent who wish to pick up their children can do so in front of the building at any time. The children are not in any danger."

Much of northeastern Oklahoma is dealing with high fire danger due to strong winds and dry conditions.
