On Monday morning four businesses were destroyed near 76th Street North and Main Street in Owasso. Firefighters said it spread from one business to the next destroying a glass shop, an automotive shop, a boxing center and pool store. Owasso firefighters were concerned with the fire spreading to Aqua Tech Pool Supplies right away because there was 8 thousand pounds of chlorine inside the store, which could be very dangerous to inhale if it caught on fire. Residents who live near-by were evacuated and many streets were closed down as firefighters worked. Fortunately, the chlorine did not catch fire. However, four businesses were destroyed including Jeremiah Walton's family business, Reliable Tire and Auto.
"My employee that lives behind here called me, and I just came out here and watched it burn for 3 hours," Jeremiah said.
He’s been coming to the store almost everyday since he was 12 years-old. Jeremiah said a lot of memories and money went up in flames, but one thing survived that Jeremiah couldn't replace, his dog Gus, who livesd at the shop.
"He was inside while it was burning for over an hour, and they cut a hole in the back-door and he ran out," Jeremiah explained.
He said Gus was scared and very dirty. His fur turned from white to almost black, but Jeremiah said he is okay. Gus got a bath right away, but the shop can't be cleaned up so easily. Everything inside is gone, but Jeremiah said he's trying to be optimistic.
"I’ve been doing this for so long, I'm looking at this as maybe an opportunity to do something different,” he said.
Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the flames. No-one was hurt. All the streets are re-open.
