Nine Tulsa fire companies responded to a house fire in the 7800 block of East 53rd Place around 8:30pm Thursday.

Fire officials say a man lives in the house with his step-son.  The homeowner says they were arriving home when they saw the garage on fire. The flames then spread to the rest of the house. The homeowner says he thinks it started from a cigarette that his step-son threw into a garbage can in the garage, where he often smokes. But fire investigators have not officially determined the cause of the fire.

No one was inside the house at the time of the fire.  Neighbors were evacuated.  No one was hurt.
