Father arrested for DUI and manslaughter charges

A man is arrested on suspicion of DUI following an Saturday morning crash that killed is 5-year-old son.

Fort Gibson Police say the child was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled several times, and hit a tree. The child was transported to a hospital in Muskogee before life-flight took him to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. The child died Saturday evening. There was no indication that the child was in a car seat, or wearing a seat belt.

The child's father, 33-year-old Cody Welch was arrested with charges of DUI, child endangerment, possession of marijuana among other charges. Welch also faces manslaughter charges. He is being held at the Muskogee County Jail.

Fort Gibson Police are still investigating the accident.
