After a FOX23 story about a picture posted on Facebook showing Amber Hilberling, who is accused of killing her husband after police say she pushed him out of University Club Tower in 2011 while pregnant, kissing her 13-month-old son during a prearranged special visit aired on Tuesday, Jail officials say Hilberling's mom won't be able to visit her daughter at the facility for 90 days.
“When you have a news media come in and they tell you have something going on wrong, inside your own house, it's pretty embarrassing,” Major Shannon Clark with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office told FOX23 Friday.
Major Clark says this incident won't just affect the family of Amber Hilberling, now everyone who comes to see someone at the jail will be checked through to make sure they're not carrying any phones or electronic devices.
“We're going to do our due diligence to make sure we're maintaining the safest environment we possibly can,” he said.
They also say while Hilberling is an inmate here, her son likely won’t be able to visit.
“I don't think there will be any more special visits granted for this particular situation.”
FOX23 talked with Amber Hilberling's attorney on Tuesday. Jasen Corns said, “The notion this story is newsworthy is ridiculous.” When Major Clark heard that what made it newsworthy is that Hilberling’s mother posted the picture to Facebook.
As a result of our story, the jail is also working on a new set of rules to be enforced when a special visit is granted for a child younger than 14 years-old.
