Fans screamed all night long Friday at the Backyard Bowl. Jenks versus Union. The stakes were high in the 1-2 showdown.

Jenks came out on top, winning 20-16, and when they did, their crowd went crazy.

FOX23 was there before the game, though, and took a closer look at the two schools’ rivalry.

It's an age-old rivalry. You see a  sea of maroon on one side, a sea of red on the other, only divided by a football field.

From a young age, students at both schools are taught the same.

"I have learned to hate Jenks, every day,” a Union student said.

"I’ve been taught to hate Union,” a Jenks student said.

Students on both sides showed up nearly two hours before game time Friday.

A particular group of kids have a ton of school spirit. They call themselves the "Superfans" and they came running down the street with the school's flag.

"We all love each other and we all support each other."

“The fans, the enthusiasm everybody loves there school."

Union fans are quite enthusiastic as well. They have a teepee crew.

“We get the crowd hyped during the game," one member of the group told FOX23.

Also, Union students have a creative way of cheering on their team. They show their support for certain Union players by holding up an oversized face cut-out of them.

They are diehard fans.

That's why Jenks and Union schools along with the University of Tulsa's campus security and TPD have teamed up to make sure nothing gets out of hand.

“We've worked extensively with administrators from both schools to try and keep them from congregating and crossing paths,” Captain Eric Palmer with TU’s campus security said.

Because no matter what, it's important that everyone gets home safely.
