A drug task force believes they took out a major operation in Cherokee County Thursday. They arrested 43-year-old Shawn Peters and 40-year-old Dusty Rollins. They were found in an early morning raid near Lake Tenkiller.

One law enforcement official told FOX23 they found methamphetamine, marijuana and thousands of dollars of money inside the home and it came as a relief to neighbors. Drug task force leader Mike Moore shared with FOX23 what they believe was really going on.

"They had been doing this for a very, very long time and they were so comfortable doing it this that they didn't even hide the drugs," said Moore.

They found a lot of substance in the home they raided at 3:30 Thursday morning.

"We found a sizeable amount of crystal meth, we found a small amount of marijuana and lots of drug paraphernalia," said Moore.

They also found nearly $5,000 that was stashed in a container with other drugs. They said the only way they could safely do the bust was very early in the morning when neighbors wouldn't see.

"And the reports were that people were watching the house and there are other people that live in this area that would notify them if there was a large presence of police or anything in that area," said Moore.

They also heard that the suspects were armed and law enforcement officers could get trapped if anything went wrong.

"The house was on a dead-end street, a rural dead end, dirt road so there's one way in, one way out," said Moore.

For nearby resident Lynn Earterberry, the bust comes as good news.

"I just wish they would get them all and not let them back out on the streets," said Earterberry.

For now two people accused of dealing near her home are off the streets. Both suspects are being held without bond.

And did anyone actually proofread the headline "Cherokee Co. nabs alleged major drug task force" or did they just let the police spokesman write the story?

Thats actually not a lot of meth, and $5000 is not unusual to find in rural areas where people prefer to avoid banks. And that neighbor must be one Bud short of a sixpack. Nothing to see here.
