Deputies have arrested a Catoosa man accused of strangling his girlfriend with a seatbelt.
FOX23 brought you this story Friday, of the man arrested on murder charges. Joshua Addington faces a first-degree murder charge
and an obstruction of justice charge after his 30-year-old girlfriend was killed in her car.
FOX23 went to Catoosa to find out what led to a young woman's death and we dig into the part of the case especially difficult for law enforcement.
By all accounts, investigators tell me, the couple had an abusive relationship.
This escalated when deputies found Brooke Kinas strangled with a seatbelt, in a car parked at her boyfriend's parents' house.
The original cause of death was suicide but police now believe foul play was involved.
"We do believe that she was strangled with the seat belt," said Wagoner County Sheriff Bob Colbert.
However the sheriff's department tells FOX23 that the story just wasn't adding up, so investigators kept digging
Colbert told us that investigators found out that Brooke and her boyfriend, Joshua Addington, had an abusive relationship and then another twist was thrown in the case.
"He lied to us and he admitted to lying to us during the investigation," said Colbert.
Addington was arrested on an obstruction charge and first-degree murder charge.
Sheriff Colbert says this was a difficult case,
"I think we ended up with four investigators working on this round the clock."
One of the most emotionally taxing parts: "We found out that she is mother, she has a small child, and she was trying to get out of this relationship and move on. And for it to end this way is pretty tough on law enforcement."
Law officers and friends are thinking about the little girl.
There is a fundraising website that one of Brooke's friends created for her daughter.
It's on "GOFUNDME.COM."
