FOX23 is learning more about the discovery of a man's body, in a private-pond over the weekend.

The body was found in Muskogee County, west of Webbers Falls and south of Interstate 40  on Sunday.

Officials identified the body as that of 50-year-old David Lewis from the Vian area.

Investigators told FOX23’s Brittany Jeffers that they are worried. A toxicology report is being done, but there is reason to believe this could be a homicide.

The lead investigator, Coletta Peyton, said she is looking at a possible murder. She said they think it is strange that Lewis was on private land when he died.

“We just don't have bodies floating in ponds around here,” she said.

The investigator told FOX23 Lewis had just gotten out of the Sequoyah County Jail this month. Court records show that Lewis had felony charges including drugs, assault and theft.

Peyton said that Lewis was last seen on Wednesday and no missing person report was filed.

Peyton said that they are asking the public for any information about the events that lead to the death.

@Mayor Maynot: Do you not have any morals, respect or human decency? Didn't your mother teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? This would most especially apply when your comments are referenced to a person (a human being) that has lost their life. Maynot... that says a lot.

"The lead investigator, Coletta Peyton...said they think it is strange that Lewis was on private land when he died" It's 100 degrees outside, maybe he didnt have a pond to swim in on his own land? Dont put much faith in this "investigation"
