A family is mourning the loss of a Green County woman after firefighters found her dead inside her burning Bixby home.
Loved ones parked outside a burned house and grieved on Sunday morning. Hours later, neighbors and police continue to search for answers.
Sgt. Eric Kitch with the Tulsa County Sherriff’s office said when firefighters responded to the fire near 171st Street and Memorial Drive the home was covered in flames. A closer look revealed much worse.
“After the fire was out they did a search of the residence and located a body inside under the rubble,” Kitch said.
Family members said that person was a grandmother, Wanda Anderson.
Grieving loved ones didn't want to speak on camera, but a granddaughter did talk to FOX23’s Price McKeon off camera. She said that her grandmother was very private.
The investigation continues. As of Sunday night firefighters don't know what caused Wanda Anderson's death.
Kitch said (fire marshals are) “trying to determine if a crime has happened or not or whether it was just an accidental fire that someone was found deceased.”
He said sometimes, these fires are exactly what have taken lives before.
“To me it doesn't appear any different than those,” Kitch said.
In every case a family was left heartbroken, a painful similarity here.
