Two possible suspects are question after a bomb threat after a bomb threat was called in to the Cherokee County Courthouse Wednesday morning. No bomb was found.

The threat was called in around 8:40.  Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, investigators from the District 27 District Attorney's Office, officers and detectives from the Tahlequah Police Department, special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and firefighters from the Tahlequah Fire Department investigated the threat.

The building was evacuated, around 200 people were cleared out of the courthouse. Streets around the courthouse were blocked off. Bomb detecting dogs and investigators from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad conducted a secondary search and were also unable to locate any explosives. The clerk who received the call notified deputies and police.

“We received a phone call from a gentleman who said he’s tired of paying his fines and that he wasn’t going to pay anymore. He stated there was a bomb in the building,” said Cherokee County Deputy Clerk Laura Hendricks.

She notified a deputy clerk pressed the emergency button in her office to notify deputies and police of the danger.

“This is very disruptive to the business of the courthouse,” said Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault.

“There is a lot of counties that have a lot of security at their front doors,” said Hendricks.

Her office is the first one you see in the courthouse.

“We’ve all got kids,” she said. “We all have a family to go home to when we walk out.”

Authorities are now working to track down the person who called the threat in. They told FOX23 they are following up on numerous leads.

“I think we’ve been very fortunate. I’ve been here 14 years and this is the first time we’ve ever had a bomb threat,” said Hendricks.

They are not sure if the threat is related to anything on the docket. The courthouse reopened at 1pm.
