TULSA, Okla. - American Airlines is asking for volunteers to leave the company as a way to reduce staff in Tulsa.
An AA spokesperson told FOX23 anyone who volunteers for a voluntary separation will receive their level of severance and the vacation they have accrued. They will also receive their company profit check from March and their check from the merger. Workers have until March 10th to sign up and will be notified in April if they are accepted.
Workers do not have to be retirement age, junior employees are also eligible.
AA will also begin sending the MB 80 or the 737 to be worked on in Tulsa to create more work. Employees are also being asked to work a 7 day work week instead of 5. They will still work 40 hour weeks, it will just be allocated differently.

“As we’re revitalizing our fleet and completing several aircraft modification incentives in anticipation of American’s changing operational needs, we continue to collaborate with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) to find ways to mitigate any potential labor surplus in Tulsa and at the Alliance Airport maintenance base (AFW) - TAESL. These efforts to rebalance operations through work schedules and workload will ensure that the impact to our Tulsa and TAESL operations remains minimal.”
