Police have found the two small children who were inside a truck that was stolen from Shoreline Apartments, near 21st and Mingo Friday evening. An Amber Alert has been canceled, but police continue to search for the suspect. Both little girls were returned safely to their family.
Police say the suspect, described as an Hispanic male, 5'9", heavyset, in his 30s, wearing a gray jacket, stole the pick-up around 8:30pm Friday, from the family's apartment complex.
Around 10:15 Saturday morning police say they found the stolen pickup truck abandoned in the area of the 1900 block of E. Marshall Place.
Police say just before 10pm Friday someone kicked a door at a home near Newton and N. Lewis. When the homeowners opened the door, they discovered the five-month-old, Zayveah, on the doorstep, in a car seat.
A few minutes later, police say someone found the one-year-old, Sariah, in a car seat between a couple of cars in the parking lot of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, in the 2400 block of Admiral Blvd.
"She had no bottle, she had no crackers or nothing, no food," church member Maria Narvaez said. "She was just crying."
"I'm glad that he took the decision to drop the kids, whether it was a house or a church, but I'm glad that he returned them somewhere safely."
The mother was reunited with her two daughters at the Tulsa Police Mingo Valley Division by 10:30 p.m.
“Every time they opened the door, I kept saying is that my baby? Is that my baby? When is she coming, is she coming yet?,” said mother Tiama Brown.
Zayveah’s father was also there for the reunion.
“Just very thankful we got both of our daughters back,” said Jeremy Smith.
They say as they were moving their vehicle that broke down, around 8:30pm, they were standing by their 2004 Ford F-150. The suspect jumped in the driver's side door and took off with the two girls inside.
The parents started chasing the suspect on foot and called police.
“I moved and took a short cut and stood right in the middle of the road and he sped up he was getting ready to me. I had to jump out of the road,” said Brown.
Brown says she doesn’t know who found her children but she is more than grateful for the woman and the church member who brought her children home alive.
“Thank you is the best I can say right now but we are way passed that. Thank you is nowhere near good. Miracle,” said Brown , who is also expecting another child.
Police continue to search for the suspect. If you have any information call 911 or Crime Stoppers at (918) 596-COPS.
