Three men are in jail after leading police on a high speed chase in north Tulsa.

Police said they got a call Sunday afternoon about a group of people planning to start a fight at Mohawk Park.

When officers got to the park, they said they saw a Cadillac leaving the area.  Police said they tried to pull it over, but the driver took off.  Police chased the car, until they were able to use stop sticks and blow out the car's tires near 36th St. North and Lewis.

"Lots of families gather at Mohawk Park on a Sunday.  So, it was our biggest concern to keep them safe and make sure we did not have a shooting where multiple people would get hurt," said Capt. Karen Tipler, Tulsa Police.

Police arrested the three men that were inside the car.  During their search of the vehicle, police said they found an AK-47 rifle in the car.

Officers said the incident may have been gang related.

I'm just glad someone had the nerve to call in and police were able to put a stop to what could have been a horrific tragedy.

Fact-checking police handouts? Good luck with that.

Bull ----! A semi-automatic that takes 7.62 x 39 rounds? Yeah, you can get those a lot of places. But I highly doubt some street-level thug is packing a real, honest-to-goodness Soviet-era Kalashnikov on the streets of Tulsa. And there's a real big difference between an ordinary semi-automatic rifle for varmint-hunting and a full-rock-and-roll SMG. Somebody either in the TPD or on the Fox 23 staff needs to learn some things about firearms.
