Electrical inspections

Set Text Size SmallSet Text Size MediumSet Text Size LargeSet Text Size X-Large
Electrical projects may be inspected at two different phases: the first visit must take place when work is done, but before walls are insulated or closed. Some areas may require a second visit, after the walls are up. It's your responsibility (or your contractor's) to arrange the inspection, when the time comes. The inspector's job is to ensure that all work meets local code. He or she will look for proper mounting of boxes, fixtures and cables. Fuses or circuit breakers and their cables will be checked to see if they match the amperage of the appliance they feed. The inspector will make sure that hot, neutral and ground wires are properly connected. Areas like the bathroom will be inspected for gfci outlets, and a number of other checks will be made. If your electrician has done a thorough job, you should have little or no problem passing inspection. But until you do, you can't sell or occupy the home. So it pays to do the job right the first time. For more details on electrical inspections, contact your local building inspector's office.
