Stuffing comes in all kinds of makes and ingredients. There's bread stuffing, corn bread stuffing, apple stuffing, rice stuffing and turkey sausage stuffing, just to name a few.

Technically, it's called stuffing only when it's cooked inside the turkey. Otherwise, it's dressing. But whatever you call it, this carbohydrate-laden side dish can easily load you up on calories and fat.

If you make it inside the bird, it will absorb fat from the cooking turkey. You have more choices if you bake it separately. One way to reduce the fat is to moisten the mixture with fat-free chicken broth rather than butter.
