Can I represent myself in tax court?
The United States Tax Court hears cases involving disagreements between the Internal Revenue Service, or IRS (I-R-S), and taxpayers regarding the underpayment of income, gift, or estate taxes.
Tax fraud and evasion
Tax fraud and evasion refer to the intentional avoidance to pay taxes. Fraud means that you understood that you owed the tax and still didn't pay and is different from paying late or using 'creative' accounting or loopholes to reduce your taxes.
Tax law
Tax laws explain the legalities of tax assessment and collection and have been established by governmental bodies at several levels. Tax laws can be enacted by the federal and state governments or by local municipalities.
United States Tax Court
The Tax Court of the United States was established by Congress in 1924. The provisions for the tax court are set forth in Article I (one) of the U.S. Constitution.
What are tax protestors?
Most people recognize and fulfill their obligations to file federal income taxes. There are some people, however, who choose not to follow the rules. The Tax Protestor Movement was started by a group of such anti-conformists who use illegal methods to protest the tax laws.
