Makeup can be used to enhance the appearance of clear skin and to conceal problem skin. Despite its benefits, makeup can create skin problems if you don't use the proper products. Whether or not you have problem skin, it's best to wear makeup that is water-based instead of oil-based. Oil-based makeups can clog your pores, leaving your skin susceptible to breakouts. They can also make your skin appear oily and shiny. Always test the color of a foundation, powder, or concealer before buying it to make sure that it matches your natural skin tone. Makeup that's too dark or too light can really show up on your skin, especially if you have acne or other skin problems. It should blend in with your natural color. When choosing a foundation, concealer, or powder, look for one that is labeled non-comedogenic (non-cawm-DOE-jen-ick), meaning that it will not clog your pores. It's also a good idea to use products that are labeled hypoallergenic if you have sensitive skin. Furthermore, anything left on the skin for too long can clog your pores, so it's imperative to remove your makeup every night before going to bed. Cleansing your skin thoroughly in the morning and at the end of the day is vital for maintaining healthy skin, especially if you've been wearing makeup. A regular routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing can help prevent skin problems related to wearing makeup and keep your skin looking healthy.
