One of the most difficult aspects of getting your car repaired can be trying to find a mechanic you can trust. A good rule of thumb is to find a garage where the mechanics are certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. This is an organization that tests auto mechanics in several specific areas of car repair. Some areas of A-S-E testing include general repair, paint and body, machine shop services, and transmissions. When a mechanic takes and passes all the A-S-E tests, he or she is known as a master technician. A-S-E certified mechanics have proven their ability and experience in particular areas of auto repair, and may be able to provide better service than a non-certified mechanic. Certified mechanics will generally wear a patch from the A-S-E that signifies them as such.
