The City of Tulsa closed the right southbound lane on Memorial at 76th street for repairs.
The lane is closed because curb work is needed done along the road. Even though the lane is only closed for about the length of two football fields, FOX23 found it is still causing traffic backups.
Jennifer Haydon works at an optometrist's office down the street from the construction and said traffic is bad enough here with two open lanes.
"It can back up, especially if there's a car wreck or the lights are out. We'll see traffic's just lined up, not moving at all for a while," she said.
She and her co-workers do all they can to find ways to avoid getting on Memorial here.
"Cut through the neighborhood all the way out to 71st St. that cuts out by the fire station. Or, we'll actually go clear out 81st and up to Sheridan if we have to," she said.
Since there seems to be construction zones all over town she also does her best to avoid driving in rush hour altogether.
"I leave before it gets too bad. But, I do hear that, yeah, Memorial is one of the worst streets," she said.
Now, she worries this road work will affect her work.
"People could possibly cancel appointments to avoid the area until it clears up," she said.
Haydon said she'll warn patients to give themselves a little extra time to get to their appointments.
This lane is scheduled to stay closed for 8 days.
