(TULSA, Okla.) November 7 - As the cases of MRSA continue to rise in our area, some may wonder just how safe it is to eat out.
Health inspectors have a long list of things they have to check, including if foods are stored at the right temperature, if foods are cooked at the right temperature, employees are washing hands properly and a big one, making sure employees are healthy.
Employees have been satisfying hungry customers at "The Freeze" for more twenty years.
“We always want people to be satisfied when they come here." Owner Maureen Vaughan knows it's not just about serving food that tastes good. It also needs to meet Tulsa Health Department standards. “We really pride ourselves on keeping a clean environment and making sure everyone is healthy."
That's why she welcomes the health inspector.
Inspector Kendra Wise also makes sure food is stored and cooked at the right temperature. But now, with all the news about the MRSA infection and flu season, they’re emphasizing employee’s health.
“Everyone's thinking about MRSA but at the health department, we’re always stressing to managers to make sure sick employees go to the doctor and don't work, stay out of work", Kendra says.
It's a policy Maureen says she supports. “If an employee is sick, we want them to tell us… We want to serve good food and not get anyone else sick."
