It's a tradition in Porter, OK, the annual Porter Peach Festival. The Porter Lions Club hosts the annual event bringing in thousands to this small, quaint town known as the Peach Capitol of Oklahoma. A wide variety of food vendors, inflatables, arts and crafts booths, and street games are available during the entire festival. Thursday, July 18th at 4:00 p.m., the festival kicks off and features a live band and the Peach Pageant, where three young ladies will be crowned peach royalty. The festival continues Friday, July 19th at 11:00 a.m., and features and tractor pull and live band that evening. Saturday, July 29th is a fun filled day of events that begins at 7 a.m. with a 5k run through the town and a car show begins shortly after from 8-11:00 a.m. The highlights of the festival begins at 11:00 with a parade down Main Street, followed by a lively peach auction and free peaches and ice cream. Miss Peach Blossom, Kailey Guinn’s Porter Peach Pizza:
1 stick margarine
1 cup flour
¼ cup powdered sugar
1 – 8 ounce package cream cheese
1 ½ cup Cool Whip
1 cup powdered sugar
1 quart fresh sliced Porter Peaches
1 small package peach Jello
Directions: soften margarine, the add flour and ¼ cup powdered sugar. Press into 9 x 12 pan. Bake for 15 minutes at 375 or until edges brown. Mix cream cheese, cool whip, and 1 cup powdered sugar together. Spread on cooled crust. Mix one cup hot water with Jello, then add sliced peaches and pour on top cream cheese mixture. Chill, top with more Cool Whip after Jello has set.
