What are some of the top destination for summer vacations?Summer is great time to travel and very popular for families with children. Great options include cruising, all-inclusive resorts, beach resorts/hotels in the US and city stays. The top destinations that we see are Caribbean cruises, all-inclusives in Mexico and the Caribbean, Walt Disney World, and even Europe.
2.
If someone hasn’t planned their summer vacation, is there still time?Of course there is. Options and flights may be a little more limited and pricier if you wait until the last minute though. We are seeing some last minute cruise specials and even some resort specials as well. However, there are some destinations and hotels that are sold out well in advance. So I do highly recommend planning as early as possible.
3.
What tips can you offer to those still in the planning stage?a. Plan early. This is 1 of the most important. Typically pricing is better, you will have more options to choose from and you will most likely get what you want, not what is left over.
b. Sit down and list what the goal of this vacation is, what type of experience are you expecting. Are you looking for relaxation, sightseeing, adventure. What amenities or activities are important to you. Also list the destinations that appeal to you and why you are interested in them.
c. For more complicated vacations, or for those who just don’t know where to start and are thoroughly confused by surfing the web, I highly recommend working with an experienced travel advisor. We do this day in and day out and know where the promotions are, what flights will work out best, etc. You also add that personal service aspect to your experience, along with that peace of mind should you have questions, things go wrong, etc.
d. Don’t believe everything you read or see on the internet. Pictures can be very deceiving…

What are some things to consider to get the most from your vacation budget?a. Once you have listed what you want to get from your vacation, move on to your budget. How much do you have to spend, or expect to spend on this vacation. This is very important to set this upfront and know what the true total cost is so you don’t have any surprises.
b. When working with a travel advisor, our goal is to come up with options that factor in both your wants/needs AND budget. We look for the options that provide the best value for your $$. These are not necessarily the cheapest options.
c. Lastly, most people start with looking at websites for “deals.” Deals are only good if they are the right fit for you. I ask all of my clients, “How cheap does a bad vacation have to be for it to be okay?”. You get the point I am trying to make here.
