It's a practice more than 5,000 years old. Ayurvedic rejuvenate therapy is mean to "'wash'" away the diseases of the mind, said Holly Kirk, Director of Spa Services The Canebrake. This resort and spa offers a common Ayurvedic procedure called Shirodhara. "The therapist administers the oil in a thin constant stream which flows from a copper vessel hung above the client’s forehead. The flow of the oil in directed on the anja chakra or the third eye," Kirk said. "This area of the forehead is associated with the pineal, pituitary and hypothalamus glands, which dictate the organization and regulation of all hormone secretions. These hormonal secretions control digestion, breath and elimination they also control the emotional state. Shirodhara also effects the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the “rest and digest system.” This oil treatment helps a person suffering from insomnia, depression, vertigo, anxiety, tension/frontal headaches, ringing in the ears, eye strain, shingles outbreak, parkinson’s and more, Kirk said.
