Everyone is unique and that goes for their body type too. Whether you have a pear shape, or an athletic figure, knowing what makes your silhouette stand out can make or break an outfit. Kelly Mize at Little Black Dress showcases dresses that will make your wardrobe work for you.

The "pear shape" female should look for a cinched waister to show off curves and create a figure, Mize said.

"Petite frames need a simple shape with no extra frills or fabrics that “take over,” she said.

For a straight figure looking for separates to add curves, she said. "If you have an athletic torso, a peplum dress adds femininity, while showing off your shoulders."

"Apple shapes need a look with a loose fit on the top...If you have short legs, try a maxi dress with a high waist that gives the appearance of longer legs," Mize said.

"Be open to alterations from a professional to allow for a well-fitting garment. This may mean you have fewer items, but they will fit you nicely, and will become pieces you can keep longer."
