   Safari's Sanctuary

Meet Scramble the Coatimundi. Coatis are also known at South American Raccoon or Hog Nosed Coon. They range in length from 12-27” and weigh between 4-18 pounds. They have paws like a raccoon or a bear and have non-retractable claws.

Their long snout resembles that of a hog and can rotate a full 60 degrees in any direction.

While most common in Central and South America some can be found in the wild in the Southwestern United States (Arizona, New Mexico and Texas). In the wild they live 7-8 years and can live as long as 15 in captivity.

Their diet in the wild consists of ground litter such as fruits, insects and small animals such as lizards. They can also be litter box trained.
