Q. Many people believe that strength training or lifting weights will make them big and bulky. Is there any truth is this?A. No. It is very difficult to build muscle by accident as it requires proper protein requirements, diet, and supplementation and requires proper volume, intensity, sets, reps, time under tension to really build muscles.
Q. We’ve also heard that muscle turns to fat if you stop using it. How do you respond to this?A. Muscle atrophies (shrinks) when it is not stimulated but no it does not turn to fat.
Q. What about flexibility?A. Many people believe that strength training makes you inflexible, but if it is done correctly, it can actually increase flexibility.
Q. Is there an age limit to strength training?A. Absolutely not. Many people believe that strength training is only for younger people but there are tons of benefits for older people as well including increased bone density. Strength training also helps promote health tendons, ligament, and joint function.
Q. Strength training specific areas reduces fat in those areas. True or false?A. Strength training will tone and strengthen the muscles in those areas but there are other things you need to pay attention to in order to reduce fat.
Q. So what else should we be doing?A. Focusing on a proper diet and cardio coupled with strength training will lead to body fat loss.
