Tulsa area seniors are invited to step back in time on Sunday afternoon, May 6th and dance or listen to the sounds of Western Swing at the 10th annual Senior Star Round-Up, hosted by Burgundy Place and Woodland Terrace - Senior Star Communities. The Round-Up will be held once again at the historic Cain’s Ballroom, and will feature the music of the Round-Up Boys and Cowboy Jones. Great door prizes and complimentary refreshments will be available. Proceeds from the event will benefit LIFE Senior Services of Tulsa.
For a donation of only $10 per person, seniors and their families and friends will enjoy the nostalgia of Cain’s Ballroom and its vibrant history as the home of Bob Will’s famous vocals and the Texas Swing sound. The portrait-lined walls pay tribute to the country music legends that have played the Cain’s including Wills, Roy Rogers, Hank Thompson, Roy Acuff, and Merle Haggard.
Senior Star has once again rounded up a wonderful line up for this event. The Round-Up Boys have played together for over 20 years and were recognized as Best Country Act at the 2003 and 2004 Spotnik Music Awards. Their repertoire is heavy on the Wills classics, with some Porter Wagoner, Ray Price, and even original tunes thrown in, but according to lead singer Bob Fjeldsted, “it’s all Western Swing.”
Cowboy Jones features the musical talents of Bob Wiles, who was inducted into the Spotnik Hall of Fame as a long-time member of The Red Dirt Rangers. Wiles is known to show up sporadically as Cowboy Jones, which, he said, “gives me an opportunity to hang out with some of my musically-talented best friends.” The other members of Cowboy Jones are some of the best area musicians including Anthony Pierce, Kurt Neilson, Jeff Overbeck, Jimmy Karstein and Mike Hopper. Expect to hear a wide variety of classic country music with a splash of Red Dirt from one of the Red Dirt pioneers.
Seniors are invited to come and bring their families and friends to Cain’s Ballroom (423 N. Main St.) on Sunday, May 6th, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 per person, and will be sold in advance at Woodland Terrace (9524 E. 71st St.), Burgundy Place (8887 S. Lewis), and LIFE Senior Services (5950 E. 31st St.), Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., by phone at 918-664-9000, or at the door the day of the event. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
