1. We all know that as we get older we tend to gain more fat. Why is that?
Both men and women tend to trade muscle for fat. Especially women when they hit menopause, the loss of estrogen causes more fat to deposit, even if the weight doesn’t change.
2. How do the extra inches of fat hurt our health?
Among the over 20 substances to include hormones and enzymes produced by our fat cells is a substance called Tumor Necrosis Factor and Adiponectin. The TNF overproduction causes chronic inflammation which trigger damage to your blood vessels and causes heart disease, hypertension and stroke. The Adiponectin production is blocked by increased fat cell size, so we get insulin resistance.
