Celebrities including Madonna, Beyonce, Anna Paquin, Kelly Ripa and more are headed to the barre for ballet-inspired workouts. While Barre isn't new, it definitely is in Tulsa. Owner of A Sculpt Tulsa Barre Class Marlena Martindale opened her studio after finding this method of training not only gives you a great looking physique but keeps you healthy. "So many of my friends, clients and myself have had injuries that relate to a weak core, weak glutes and poor flexibility," she said. "Our classes target specific muscle groups and work them to the point of failure by using our own body weight as leverage and doing very small repetitive movements combined with deep contracted isometric holds. This is the most effective form of exercise I have found that is transforming my shape as well as my clients."
Barre class is a low impact deep muscle workout combing both methods of ballet and pilates to impact your deep muscles.
The workout includes a low impact warm up, then moves on to leg work. "One example is using the ball and moving lower in small pulses as we squeeze the ball," Martindale said. "By the third sequence of leg work our legs have been shaking and trembling and we quickly move into a stretching sequence, helping to create the long lean sculpted look that we are known for. Glute work is next and we go through exercises both at the barre like this one where you are in arabesque, and also exercises on the floor to deeply work what I believe to be the most underused muscle in most of our bodies. The results are amazing," Martindale said.
All ages are able to do this workout, and there are levels and modifications so that each of them can participate and be challenged right to their own personal edge. "Beginners who really want to see results quickly should try and attend a minimum of 3 classes per week," she said.
Sculpt Tulsa Barre Classes are currently offered at the Jasinski Dance Academy which is located at 3315 E 33rd St, here in Tulsa. This is just East of Harvard on 33rd Street.
