21 day challenge from My Fit Foods is the no muss no fuss way to learn how to feed your body the food it needs. It is based on a low glycemic index plan, which means you eat carbohydrates that burn slowly and don’t raise your insulin levels. You also eat 5 times a day, which keeps you from getting overly hungry.
The 21 days is not just about the food. You will challenge yourself to be without sugar, caffeine or alcohol. You start your morning with a detoxifying cleanse of unsweetened cranberry juice, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. You also take vitamins to help boost your energy levels.
To see how the 21 day challenge worked for ourselves we put 7 people to the test.
Emily- a twenty something, single, producer who loves to hang with her friends on the weekend. She loves to go to lunch with her co-workers and drink win with dinner.
Danielle- a twenty something, married, mother of a toddler, works in business office. She recently started a couch to 5k program. She is still trying to get over the plateau in her fitness and weight loss plan. She would like to see a part of the scale she hasn’t seen for while.
Kari- a thirty something, single, newly engaged. She works out at crossfit most mornings. She wants to take her fitness to the next level.
Wendy & Greg- thirty somethings, married, with two busy boys at home. They both work outside the home. Wendy runs every morning. She thought she was eating the right things: veggies and lean meats. Then she found out she had an iron deficiency.
Jennifer & Dave – thirty somethings, married, with a toddler at home. They both work outside the home. With a one year old at home, they have not found much time to workout. Dave doesn’t work typical hours and finds it hard to stick to an eating schedule sometimes skipping meals.
First day was not an easy one. The first taste of the cleanse drink was not good. She made a note to never try to drink it right after she had brushed her teeth. An every morning diet soda habit made the morning a hard one. Then there was the task of actually eating a breakfast. It was bigger than her usual meal. The task of eating every few hours was a daunting one. She wondered how she would be able to eat that often for 21 days. Giving up after a few bites of her afternoon snack and throwing some in the trash.
Like Emily, Danielle was not in love with the morning cocktail. She found it very hard to get down in the morning. She was very pleased with the food. She said it was very good. She said usually when you hear weight loss it is just a medley of vegetables. She really felt full after eating her portions.
She is the champ of the team. The only one of the group who has anything nice to say about the morning cocktail. She says it is just a little bit tart. She was excited to tackle the challenge. She is enjoying the variety of food and feels full every day.
Wendy & Greg-
Excited to get started. They aren’t in love with the morning cocktail either, but found they would rather do the smaller version than drink it with 12 ounces of water. Just get it over with quickly. They enjoy the flavor of the food. Right now, they are struggling with hunger. They are TV snackers despite both being very slim. They find it difficult to watch TV at night without something to do.
Jennifer & Dave- The couple is not big on eating reheated food. They usually just leave their restaurant leftovers behind because they don’t like to reheat it. That is the biggest struggle for them. The food so far has been pretty good. The morning cocktail is doable. Not their favorite cocktail, but they make it together and get it done.
This is just the first week. We have two more weeks to go. Follow these seven people as they face the challenges and struggles of changes their nutrition goals.
