My friend Guy Adkins was an amazing actor...and...one of the most brilliant human beings I have ever met.
Guy was diagnosed with colon cancer...and lost his battle on May 12, 2010.
As someone with many friends that cared so much about his life and work...and of course his sickness, Guy started writing Facebook Notes. What started as a recount of generally what was happening in his life, these notes became a life force of their own.
Honesty at it's core is the theme of these notes. From calling his cancer 'Candy'...so it doesn't sound so negative and scary...to calling his chemotherapy "Cookies"...Guy tells his story. And not just the doctors, the chemo and the cancer...but his "Diamond"...Sean...his partner for years that stayed with him till the end. And family. His family and friends had such an impact on his life and career...and definitely in the days when he felt sick.
The notes were turned into a book...and it is having an impact all over. One of Guy's doctors asked permission to use the book for other doctors and cancer patients.
My copy sits in my living room as a reminder of not only Guy's amazing life....but I can say this happily, because Guy would want it that way, Guy's amazing death.
