Patti Schmigle's job is helping recent OSU-Tulsa graduates and now many alums find jobs in a tough job market. She says, "Every company has sort of a different system but many do use a search system that allows them to pick on key words for a particular job."
That means the key words you use in your resume are very important.
Schmigle says, "The key words that are used in your resume may mean that it will be selected over some that have no descriptors that match that particular job."
Those words vary by the type of job you are applying for, but Schmigle says not matter what type of word you use to describe your experience, make sure your description is active. She says, "We actually call it the action verbs list. You want to describe that work that you've actually performed and we recommend you start each description with an action verb."
"They have lots and lots of resumes to look through and they use those systems, those scanning systems to pick up on words to help save them time and make sure they get the candidates who are qualified for the job."
