Protecting Children From Predators

Many of us have an idea of who may be a sexual predator.  Many times we think of a stranger as the threat, but in about 9 out of every ten cases the child molesters are someone the child knows.

A green country mother told FOX23 about her family’s tragedy.  She found out two of her children were molested by her husband, the father and step-father of her son and daughter.

She says she had no idea there was a problem until her son finally told her after he had been abused for 8 years.

She said, “I absolutely felt terrible guilt that I did not know.  I thought I was the most over protective parent with all four of my children  I though that I was protecting my children the best that I could and had no idea that it was happening in my own home.”

Child abuse expert Sharon Doty says the mother is like many parents out there who don’t know how child molesters work.

http://schoolvolunteerbackgroundcheck.blogspot.com/ This is a good story that shows how these predators operate. The website above is a textbook example of how they gain the trust and then molest. This predator was a school volunteer and was caught molesting students in 1989. He moved 100 miles across the border to Liberal Kansas where he became a school volunteer and was caught again in 2003. A jury acquitted him in 2005... Now go figure????? No wonder this stuff goes on time and time again

No registry would have warned her of this! None! Nada! The vast majority of sex offenses against children are committed by family members and friends of the family. Over 90 percent. The good news is, that this class of offender has the lowest recidivist rate. Those with the highest are 1. Those who DID NOT KNOW their victim. 2. The VIOLENT offender and the REPEAT offender. This is why Oklahoma needs to reconsider their sex offender laws. The real predoters are "hiding in the registry." A new study, soon to be released Titled: "NEW STUDY: AWA (SORNA) Tier II & Tier III are less dangerous than Tier I." Copy and past link: http://cfcoklahoma.org/New_Site/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=0&func=view&id=2312&catid=84#2312 The bottom line, the registry is worthless and with 78% on Tier III tells you absolutely NOTHING. It is designed more to shame and keep the public "EMOTIONALIZED"
