A Fox 23 Solving Problems exclusive.  We tracked down the owner of Leisure World, the pool company that closed its doors in July amid financial problems and left customers holding the bag.  Months later, many are still trying to get their money back.  Fox 23’s Douglas Clark has this Solving Problems investigation.

As we reported last week, the owner of Leisure World is now involved in a new pool business.  And he says he’s working to resolve some of the outstanding customer complaints from his old business.  But one couple says they had to deal with a lot of headaches and Leisure World’s owner is not keeping his end of the deal.

Broken pieces of concrete littered Mark and Terri White’s yard last spring.  They say they paid Leisure World up-front to install their new pool.

“We had the pool crack before we ever got in it.  They came out.  It’s been an ongoing mess.  They pulled the old pool out and busted concrete up,” says Mark White.

The Whites say they had to get another company to fix the concrete once a  second pool was installed.  They say Leisure World’s owner promised to reimburse them the $4,700 for the concrete work, but he never did.

“I had to take him to small claims court and he did not show up.  And so now I have a judgment against him,” says White.

The Better Business Bureau shows 19 outstanding complaints against Leisure World.  And as we reported last week, the former owner, Al Johnson, is now involved in a new pool business.  So we paid him a visit at the new location near 51st & Mingo.

First we asked him about the Whites’ pool.  He admits he agreed to pay for the concrete work, but says he was caught off-guard by the lawsuit.  He claims Leisure World wasn't at fault for the cracked pool.

“Mr. White has sued me and it’s going to court.  And everything I have to say will be said in court.  Mr. White is wrong,” says Johnson.

When you don't show up to small claims court, you've screwed someone over.
