Some helpful suggestions on how to stay safe as the official start to winter is tomorrow:
.) Use fireplaces only if they are properly vented to the outside.
.) Do not burn paper in a fireplace, because it could spark out of control.
.) Shovel snow with your legs, lifting from your knees and upper legs. Don't use your back, it can lead to strains.
.) Dress warmly while shoveling, wear thick gloves and layer your clothing.
.) Injuries happen on ice covered sidewalks and porches, make sure you keep yours free of ice by using rock salt or another chemical de-icing compound.
.) Make sure you check your dog's paws when they come in from outside, take a warm cloth and wash off any salt that could be stuck inside. Dogs could lick their paws and the chemicals could make them sick.
