Tulsa police say a man who barricaded himself into an apartment near 67th and Peoria overnight is dead.
Police say the standoff started around two a.m. at a South Tulsa apartment complex. A man refused to come out of an apartment in the 6700 blk of S. Peoria, at Brandy Chase apartments. At 8am, police were trying to use gas to get the man out. He'd fired shots at officers around 7am, but no one was hurt.
Police sent a robot with a camera into the apartment to get a visual on the suspect and found him not moving. After trying to revive him with gas police sent officers into the apartment and the man was dead. Police did not fire any shots during the stand off so the death was self inflicted. Police are not sure if it was an intentional or accidental shooting.
Police arrived on the scene around two this morning, after a missing person call out of Collinsville. A woman called 911 to report that she couldn't get in touch with her sister. She was concerned her sister may be with an ex-boyfriend at the south Tulsa apartment complex.
SWAT officers on the scene say just before seven, they made it into the apartment, and found three people: the suspect, his estranged wife and a girlfriend. Officers were able to get the estranged wife out of the apartment safely, but the man remained inside, and police continue to negotiate with him. The girlfriend was able to leave the scene on her own. Police believed the estranged wife was being held hostage before officers were able to get her to safety.
