A shooter is on the loose after opening fire outside a West Tulsa apartment complex early Thursday morning.

It happened at the Western Pines Apartments just after midnight. Neighbors reported hearing as many as 15 gun shots. One woman was taken to an area hospital after being struck by a bullet in the leg.

FOX23 News caught up with a few who say they’re noticing an increase in crime, and it has them worried.

“I was sitting there getting ready to go to bed and heard 9 or 10 shots go off.”

Mike Wilson says when he heard shots, all he could think was “same old thing out here on the west side.”

“It's starting to really get worse here lately,” Wilson says.

Tina Harris also heard the shooting.

“I thought it was thunder rolling through the sky until I realized that it was gunfire”

Harris has lived in Western Pine Apartments for five years. She tells FOX23 News she has seen more shootings in recent months and doesn't always know what to make of them.

“I don't know whether someone's being shot, or someone's just shooting a gun off.”

In Thursday morning’s incident, police say several shots were fired near an apartment building. One man was allegedly sitting in his car when police say one of the bullets hit the car. The woman injured was in his apartment when two bullets allegedly went through the window, one of them striking her in the leg.

Although no one was seriously injured, Harris has three young kids and says she’s concerned for their safety as much as her own.

“I felt safe to walk from my apartment to the store at 9 or 10 at night,” she began. “I probably won't do that anymore because it is getting a little rougher around here than it has been.”

Police tell FOX23 News the suspect fled on foot. No arrests have been made.
