A witness was killed as she watched a man be gunned down.

Tulsa police say that man may have had a lot of enemies.

Homicide detectives believe the shooter targeted Deyonta Dunn, 20, in his home near East Pine and North Sheridan.

The witness, Phoenicia Dorsey, 19, was also shot and killed.

Homicide detectives believe the couple was shot in early hours or late night on Thursday.

Police were called to the home in the 6900 block of East Newton Thursday night around 11:45 p.m.

"We are not asking for people on the street to risk their lives, we are asking for a phone call,” said TPD Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker.

The notes of a wind chime are the same but the neighborhood is changed.

"I don't know why but this world is getting crazy,” said neighbor Adam Underwood.

Five years ago, a mother died after being bludgeoned with a hammer and set on fire. Her infant was left to burn in the home. Her ex-boyfriend, Raymond E. Johnson, doused her with gasoline and was convicted of double murder and sentenced to death.

"During the night I just don't get out,” said Underwood.

Now there is another double murder.

"It looked like they [police] swarmed this place,” said neighbor Rodney Williams.

The victims’ family also swarmed the crime scene.

"They said, ‘they shot my baby, they shot my baby.’ Then everything broke loose, people were everywhere,” said Williams.

Investigators said a family member found Dunn and Dorsey shot to death in the home.

"Had she not been with Mr. Dunn she would still be alive,” said Walker. "I think Mr. Dunn is the one who brought the problems to the house."

Police said Dunn ran in gangs, drugs and robberies.

"Or pulling guns on folks," said Walker.

Records show since May, 2011, Dunn had been arrested five times including gun charges.

Walker said Dunn was a witness in the unsolved murder of Martin Caleb on January 31st, 2011.

"We don't think at this point his murder has anything to do with that murder but we think this murder has everything to do with Mr. Dunn and his activities," said Walker.

Police believe Dunn had created several enemies.

“The suspect pool for Mr. Dunn is large,” said Walker. “This doesn’t help us any by the stretch of the imagination."

Detectives said the last time Dorsey and Dunn were seen was on Halloween night.

They believe they could have been dead for 10 to 12 hours.

Investigators said neighbors thought they heard gun shots Halloween night or in the early morning of November 1st in the area of the crime scene but didn’t know if the gunshots had come from the home.

I worked with the young lady from the end of 2011 through most of this year. She was awesome to work with, and was a sparkplug for our whole team with her never ending giggling and upbeat manner. She was, as others had mentioned, very intelligent, but so positive and outgoing as well. I will miss her dearly, as will ANYONE who has had the pleasure of hearing that laugh. I can't say enough about how awesome this kid was to be around. I can hear her voice laughing and joking with our coworkers even as I write this. My heart goes out to her family for the loss, and although I feel sorry for all those who know her, I feel just as sad for all those who will never get to know that laugh.

It's probably best to be careful of the company you keep. They love living with a stick of dynamite :-) till it blows up in their face. Don't need no 4.0 GPA to understand that this was a gang related crime. the gang heard it and now the official word is all the gang is deaf to gunshot noise.

I've been going to school with this girl for a few years now. She was brilliant. She was the only other high school student besides myself to get a 4.0 GPA in our TTC class of 2011. She was also trying to make it in this world by going to college at TCC. It's always a shame to see your friends end up on the obituary list... Messed up world we live in. Time to find a JW to study the bible with to make sense of all this...

Praying for both families of such a terrible tragedy. Mothers and fathers should not have to bury their children, it should be their children burying them. May God bring you comfort and strength.

Too bad something couldn't have been done to prevent this tragedy, but lifestyles hinder that, price we pay for taking the wrong road, gangs are a big problem in Tulsa... we have the highest per capita gang population in the nation,I'm kinda tired of it actually, not just the tragedy of lost life but the economic cost, saw this coming twenty years ago when the downer hate rap culture started

Its unfortunate the family's have to deal with such a tragedy, but to also have their childrens name being slandered before their bodies get cold. Why can't we view a story and say,"Lord Bless their families", instead of coming to conclusions. What if it were you?

actually, the comment wasn't directed to any specific biological group so there is nothing racist about the comment. It was more like an educated guess, seeing how Tulsa's gang a drug crimes are mostly located up north and also down near south peoria. So let's not get over defensive and make False accusations to others. Besides, it doesn't matter what the cause of it was, it's still a sad and unfortunate situation.

shut the f... up and let the poor couple rest in peace!!!! you have no clue of the situation and need to keep your racist comments to yourself. people like you are a major reason why our community is in such unrest.... anything out north or involving a shooting has to be gang or drug related..... pure stereotypical racist bullshit!!!!!
