A stand off in east Tulsa ended with a home invasion suspect in custody and taken to the hospital.

Tulsa police officers surrounded a house near 7th and Maplewood early Monday morning.  Police say the homeowner heard a knock in the door around 7 Monday morning, but did not see anyone at the door.  Police say the suspect, identified as Robert Dee Rankin, then forced his way into the home.

Police say at that point the homeowner pulled a gun and shot Rankin at least once in the stomach and ran from the house to call for help.  The homeowner told police there was a loaded shot gun in the house, which is when police surrounded the house.

Police surrounded the house and finally used pepper balls to get Rankin in custody.  He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

IM NOT SAYING ITS FUNNY AT ALL. I HAVE SEEN COMMENTS AFTER READING AN ARTICLE OF A CRIME THAT HAPPENS IN NORTH TULSA. THERE HAVE BEEN COMMENTS LIKE WHO CARES JUST A BUNCH OF THUGS ANYWAY. LOT OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS. IM JUST SAY WHEN A CRIME HAPPENS ANYWHERE ELSE OTHER THAN THE NORTHSIDE. TULSANS SEEM SO CONCERNED. I BELIEVE THAT IS WRONG. YOU CANT JUDGE A PERSON BY THE AREA OF TOWN THEY LIVE IN. THERE ARE GOOD AND BAD EVERYWHERE. WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER AS A WHOLE TO TRY TO MAKE TULSA A SAFER PLACE TO LIVE.

I don't think it's funny at all.Crime is all over Tulsa and drugs are behind almost all of it.Tulsa is known to be weak on crime. The police here have their hands tied.I think the people running our city don't want to admit it and until they do it will only get worse.Drugs use is at an epidemic high right now.

IT FUNNY WHEN CRIME HAPPENS IN NORTH TULSA,COMMENTS COME POURING IN. TALKING ABOUT THE THUGS AND THE LOW LIFE THAT LIVES IN NORTH TULSA. BUT WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS ELSEWHERE THE COMMENTS COME IN HOW GREAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS AND HOPE EVERYONE WAS OK. PEOPLE NEED TO FACE THE FACT THAT CRIME IS EVERYWHERE. THERE IS BAD IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD NOT JUST NORTH TULSA. I FEEL THE RESIDENTS OF NORTH TULSA DESERVE AN APOLOGY. THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN NORTH TULSA. THE MEDIA LIKES TO EXPAND ON THE NORTHSIDE VS SOUTHSIDE. CRIME IS EVERYWHERE

Police obviously can't be everywhere and can't stop these home invasions, so the best thing to do is shoot them, every one taken out is one more we don't have to worry about. Good job homeowner and good job cops.

@ unwashed mass, I would hope they dident arrest the homeowner!!! People are crazy to think they can just break into other peoples homes with no backlash from the homeowner. Everyone here in Tulsa is a little jumpy after those guys beat that older couple to death all over a little money and car....As far as I'm concerned you kick in my door your asking to get yourself shot. Shoot first and ask questions later if you ask me. You want the idiot whos breaking into your house in the box not you.

No word if they arrested the homeowner? ...or even talked to him?
