Tahlequah police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are investigating a double homicide that happened at a home in the 100 block Lou Ellen.
Tahlequah Police were called to the home around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening to perform a welfare check. OSBI Special Agent Marty Wilson said no one answered the door when officers knocked and there wasn't a cause for concern so officers left the home.
Wilson said Tahlequah Police received another call around 9:00 p.m. from concerned family members.
"The family had come over here to check, they looked in a crack in the back door and thought they saw somebody lying on the living room floor," Wilson said.
Tahlequah Police responded to the call. When officers went inside the home they found the body of a man in his mid-60's and his 40-year-old niece.
OSBI said both victims suffered significant trauma. "The trauma appeared to be mainly blunt force trauma and there were stab wounds and some wounds made by a sharp instrument," Wilson said.
The crime scene was processed by OSBI agents. Investigators are working to identify the victims and determine what lead to their death.
"We have recovered numerous items of physical evidence that appear to be promising. Those will be analyzed and we will go from there," said Wilson.
One neighbor told FOX23, "I pray for the family and I pray that they find out who did this."
OSBI agents are looking for a few persons of interest, but couldn't release details at this time.
