Tulsa police and FOX23 News viewers alerted the newsroom about an ex-con allegedly selling shoddy home appliances on Craigslist.
Parked in front of William Doyle’s home near 61st & Mingo, there’s a red Dodge truck and in the bed of the truck is the advertised Whirlpool washer and dryer set. Also in the bed of a white Dodge truck there’s a Neptune washer and dryer. Both were advertised on a Craigslist ad that links to Doyle’s reported phone numbers.
FOX23's Abbie Alford knocked on Doyle’s door but when he saw the news cameras and microphone he slammed the door shut.
FOX23’s Abbie Alford continued to ask him questions to get his side of the story but he refused to answer.
Police say they’ve received dozens of complaints, issued tickets to Doyle, towed his cars but buyers are still complaining they are getting ripped off by Doyle.
Complaints include Doyle advertising home appliances such as washers and dryers and refrigerators and up the price on the delivery.
Potential victims say Doyle will come up with an excuse or say he listed the wrong price. In many cases the appliances don’t work and when buyers want their money back he refuses unless police show up with unsatisfied customer.
Alford: "Mr. Doyle I would like to have your side of the story please."
As Doyle continues to ignore the news, we find he has a criminal record where he was sent to prison for drugs.
Alford: "Mr. Doyle do you not sell appliances that do not work?"
The listed phone numbers posted on ads buyers warn about say the red Dodge pick-up seen in the driveway has a different paper tag on each delivery.
Police say if you think you have been scammed by Doyle or any other person with a similar story call police.
Police recommend you don’t purchase the appliance until you can confirm it works, pay only the listed price and get detailed information about the seller, take pictures and provide as much documentation.
