Nearly 19 years after he beat his co-worker to death with an aluminum bat in Tulsa, Michael Lee Wilson was executed Thursday night at the state prison in McAlester.

He was the third and final man to receive a lethal injection for the murder of Quik Trip store manager Richard Yost.

Right before his death, Wilson smiled at his family and blew kisses to them. He was given the drugs at 6 p.m. and pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m.

Wilson had five family members attend his execution. They sat in the front row and clutched each other's hands as he breathed his last breath.

"This is difficult for his family, OK? I know they are suffering through this. They didn't commit the crime, but he did and now they have to suffer, " said District Attorney Tim Harris.

Wilson was given two minutes to say his final words. Instead of apologizing for his crimes or admitting his guilt he addressed his family, saying:

"I just want to say I love everybody. Free is free. I'm going home and I'm ready to go. I love you world. Love my daughters for me. I'm going to miss you always."

He then closed his eyes for the last time while a family member sang and quoted scripture from the Bible.

Wilson was convicted in the beating death of Richard Yost in 1995. Records show that he along with three others dragged Yost to the back of a Quik Trip store near Admiral and Garnett, handcuffed him and tied up his ankles.

Surveillance video inside the store shows Wilson smiling and working the register, while Yost was beaten to death with a baseball bat. It was later determined that Wilson was the mastermind for the crime.

Court records show he admitted to police that he and his friends had planned to rob the store and knew that his co-worker would be killed.

"He made some statements about being free and I certainly hope he made peace with his creator because he is standing before Him right now," says Harris.

When someone (Mayor Maynot??) produces some evidence of any god(s) I'll consider it but until then all this god this and god that is just insane babbling. For those whose faith is strong, I recommend but only if you have a functional brain.

That's balderdash. He's not standing before his creator in judgement. If his funeral includes burial then soon he will be buried in the ground. He will not be resurrected for judgement until Jesus returns. It hAsn't happened yet. The second coming will appear as in the twinkle of an eye. The dead in Christ will join their father in heaven. The ones that are not saved will languish in the pits of hades. Anyway that's as I understand it. Probably sit right here in hell on earth fancy car no gas. Snafu like that.
